The Center News ~ January 2008

From The Front Office

We are very happy to let our membership know that the Congress and the President have approved our appropriations for construction and maintenance. This appropriation came through the Department of Transportation, Housing and Urban Development. Senator Patty Murray is the ranking member on THUD and was instrumental in our success. This $196,000 grant is earmarked for renovations and maintenance. These funds, combined with the support of other recent grantors, including the $100,000 grant from The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, should provide us with a couple of very busy years of building!

Reed Engel will head up construction management and oversight. A special thank-you goes to the planning and construction crews who have been volunteering at the building – their continued effort has kept an old building usable for all. The grant team and board of directors are excited and a little in awe of the amount of support we have been receiving. A new building plan has just been completed and we are now ready to get started on a major push forward.

Please join us in our endeavors by pitching in, either financially or you can come to the CCC and help us out. We will be needing skilled carpenters, a demolition crew, a clean-up crew and lots of other help. This is a great time to get involved! Contact the CCC office at 486-1328 with any questions.
