The Center News ~ June 2008
From The Front Office
Here it is June, which has typically been the beginning of a very slow period at the CCC... but apparently not this June!
(This month’s calendar looks about as full as every other month!) What I like to see is that just about everything on this
month’s calendar is being presented by our Members, not necessarily the Board of Directors or the Events Committee.
In my mind, that is a sign that we’re truly becoming a thriving community center!
A few of our regular classes are taking the summer off – After School Program, Young Dancers of Tonasket, and the
International Dance Classes are not going to be happening during the summer months. There is rumor, however, that we may
have performances at the Garlic Festival in August, so we’ll be able to look forward to that.
Thanks to all for your continued support and a huge thank-you to everyone for your patience during our big remodel!
All my best,
River
New Furniture Drive
We currently are finishing the front entrance room at the CCC. The cement floor has been poured and awaits the finish
treatment, the walls have been painted, and next will come the trim. The lighting is up and beautiful. The grants have
helped pay for all of this construction and finish work, but we are in need of something not written into the grants --
new furniture.
We do not want to put our old, worn out furniture back in the new room. So we are asking for donations toward this fund.
We currently have $360.00 donated to us. We are asking for large or small donations - it all adds up.
Our goal is to use locally made furniture in this space in order to follow our theme of showcasing local artisans.
If there are some local furniture makers out there, please submit your ideas to the CCC board. We will be discussing this
issue throughout the summer and making decisions about what we want in that room.
Thanks in advance for your assistance. Please contact River at 486-1328 or send your contribution to the CCC, at P.O. Box
664, Tonasket.

Tonasket Farmers' Market Begins this Month
Tonasket Farmers’ Market will begin its 2008 season on Thursday, June 12, 3-7 pm.
There have been a few changes made this year such as offering assigned spaces for regular vendors. Matt Welles is the Market
Manager this year; his contact number is: 486-8803. Although it’s not necessary to pre-arrange with Matt or with the CCC in
order to sell at the Farmers’ Market, new vendors should be sure not to set up in someone’s assigned space. A 10x10 stall
fee is still $5 per week.
With the gasoline prices being so high, and getting higher, the need for successful, thriving Farmers’ Markets is huge, so
please come shop and support your local farmers!
Apple Hill Art Camp Update
Apple Hill Art Camp in Tonasket has room for children in all three age groups. Camp runs June 23 through 27, and the ages
are grouped 4-5, 6-7 and 8-10. Tuition is $1 per child, per day. Call Liz Phares at 486-4341 to sign up.
Youth Art Club Offers Friendship, Creativity
Youth Art Club is forming! Please consider attending the first meeting on Friday, June 20, 5-6:30 pm. Young people from ages
11 and up are welcome to join in friendship for creative opportunities.
Come to a special gathering to learn about creating art and puppetry for future performance in hopes of brightening our
community with beauty and inclusiveness for all.
The focus will be on connecting with others, learning about how arts can educate, unite communities, and share important
messages such as compassion and ecology with others. There are many young people in our community who have so much to share
but just need an opportunity to connect in a safe and open format.
Parents are welcome to attend. Please bring ideas and friends so that we can create an active youth movement in our community
. A pizza dinner will be provided.
This idea is funded by a grant received from the Okanogan Family Faire. Thank-you to O.F.F. for providing the means to help
create a thriving and empowered community!

PSYCH-K Workshop
Join Dhebi DeWitz-Jensen, Certified PSYCH-K™ Instructor, June 21-22, 2008 for a life changing,PSYCH-K™ basic workshop right
here at our own CCC.
Learn how to create shifts of consciousness in this two-day workshop based on studies in neuroscience that provides specific,
inner-technology tools to align subconscious programs with conscious beliefs.
It is our beliefs and perceptions that control our lives. PSYCH-K™ teaches us how to recognize how our conscience and
subconscious minds work together to bring into our lives that which we think/feel we deserve. As we transform the
disharmonious programming within our thoughts and mind, our body then produces the healing chemistry that matches our
beliefs and we move into life-affirming experiences. This accelerated personal growth, empowerment, and transformation
program is designed to engage the other 90% of the mind most other modalities entirely ignore, while unlocking our hidden
potential.
Workshop participants learn techniques to align their subconscious programming with conscious beliefs to create life
changes in the areas of Personal Power, Prosperity, Health & Body, Self-Esteem, Relationships, Grief and Loss and
Spirituality. You will also be certified and qualified to offer PSYCH-K sessions to the public for a fee.
Come experience this accelerated personal growth and empowerment workshop that makes sense, is easy to learn, and is
changing people’s lives. With this knowledge and these tools you have power over the direction of your life.
For more info check the www.PSYCH-K.com website.
For registration call Patti Maher at 509 476-2435.
The workshop runs from 9am to 5:00pm on Saturday & 9am to 4:30pm on Sunday, though early
check-in/registration is at 8:45 am on Saturday so that we may begin on time at 9am.

Recycling is Possible in North Okanogan Okanogan County
~Submitted by Loreen Feltsted
Recycling in the Okanogan? Following the success of the Green Okanogan (GO) Conference in May, some individuals have decided to move forward to pursue
recycling for our community / county. During a breakout session at the end of the GO conference, a questionnaire was
developed. A copy of this questionnaire is enclosed in your CCC newsletter.
We are soliciting input and response from our community. Please take the time to answer the questions. If you have any
additional information or input, please submit it on an extra sheet of paper. To make this even easier, the Tonasket
Natural Food Co-op has agreed to collect the questionnaires. You can either drop off your questionnaire during your next
visit to the Co-op or mail it-- (see the instructions on the questionnaire).
Results will be made available to the community as well as the County. They have expressed interest in these results during
a recent visit to the County SWAC (Solid Waste Advisory Committee) Meeting.
So, Tonasket/Okanogan, we're listening, here is your chance to express yourself regarding the state of waste and recycling
in your community! Let us hear from you, send in your survey today!
(To see the questionnaire sent out with the CCC's print newsletter, that is available at the Co-op, click here.
You can print this out and mail it or drop it off at the Co-op ~or~ just number your answers and write them on the back of a piece of recycled paper and mail it or drop it off ~or~ number your answers in an email to peterjnew at yahoo.com :-)
There's a new arts and crafts gallery/gathering spot named Fiona located on the main road in Chesaw, WA (not at the CCC)

Okanogan Solutions
Local answers to global questions ~ Thursday, June 26th
Join us at the CCC for a talk and discussion of solutions to current global problems – including issues from the film
Zeitgeist that was shown recently at the Community Center. Globalization, economic disparity, the mass extinction in
progress… let’s talk about restoring balance to our communities and our Earth.
5:30 pm: Light dinner available for donation
6:00: “The Age of Wisdom” – Preview of a book to be published in 2009 by Thom Speidel
7:00: Community roundtable discussion: Okanogan solutions: What are our answers?
8:00: Adjourn
A child once asked her grandmother how she had become so happy and successful in her life. "Right decisions," replied her
grandmother. The girl thought for a while and then asked a second question, "But how do you learn to make the right
decisions?" The grandmother answered quickly with a twinkle in her eye, "Wrong decisions!"
Altered Art Workshop
It's the newest craft craze – Altered Art – which combines mixed media, scrap-booking, bookmaking, collage, journaling,
rubber stamping, stitching, decoupage, embellishing, painting, and much more. You are invited to join a free class at the
CCC on Saturday, June 28, from 10 till 3pm.
Participants are asked to bring their imagination, along with various items that might be perceived as “junk”. A good
starting point would be CDs (received as junk mail or no longer useful) and mint tins, such as from Altoids. Other similar
small cast-off items, such as vitamin containers, packaging and broken pottery, etc. are also examples of art-components.
To make this experience even more personal to you, you can also include collected or treasured items such as keys, stamps,
pictures, stickers, or other unusual materials and found objects. Bring your own craft supplies; scissors and rulers, yarn,
beads, fabric and fiber scraps, ribbon, buttons, etc. Ideas are unlimited...
Start gathering objects from home and storage to bring to the workshop. Items will be transformed through 'Altered Art” into
gifts, keepsakes and treasured items, cleverly saved from accumulation in the landfill!
Public screening of the 20-minute, revealing video The Story of Stuff as fuel for thought, will introduce the concepts at
the beginning of the workshop.
For more information call Loreen at 486-2769.
This event is funded by a grant received from the Okanogan Family Faire, which strives to help create a healthy, peaceful,
and creative community for all. Thank-you to O.F.F. for this
opportunity to enrich our community!
Green: What Does It Mean ?
June 20 at 7:30 p.m. ~ FREE
Tea/Coffee House, an evening of discussion, the continuing Green Okanogan series. Green, what does it mean?
Join us for education, discussion, and organizing ourselves towards action.
Come and learn and share about the Green Movement that is growing around the world. Discuss the possibilities of the Green
Movement and our evolving role at this both concerning and exciting time of change in habits and behavior. We all live on
one planet that requires our care.
Do our actions affect our future? What can we do as individuals as well by collectively working together? This evening
series, inspired by Green Okanogan of ecology/ conservation/ environmental awareness, is open to all.
This is an opportunity to learn, discuss, and respectfully work together. There are many issues affecting our planet, which
also concern our community.
Let's participate in the art of conversation that leads to networking and organizing in our community. We have the potential
to develop ideas that help remake the world.
